Mangrove Restoration and Biodiversity Conservation for Coastal Communities

Mangrove Restoration and Biodiversity Conservation for Coastal Communities

Context

Mangroves are under enormous pressure from expanding human settlements, industrial and infrastructural development activities such as port construction, aquaculture industries, land use for agriculture etc. Despite their importance, mangroves are disappearing at a global loss rate of 1–2% per year, and more than half of all mangrove ecosystems are at risk of collapse by 2050

Context
Project Activity

The Project involves restoration based on pioneer species for regeneration, considering high salinity and daily tidal influences. Local Biodiversity protection and Community engagement in plantation are crucial to the Project Activity for long-term safeguarding and maintenance of these critically endangered ecosystems.
